Course Details


On this one-day course you will learn how to make a traditional stake and strand basket with a round base, weaving the sides with different varieties of willow before finishing the basket with an asymmetrical border and driftwood handle. This course is suitable for first time weavers or for those who want to practice their skills. You are welcome to bring your own driftwood handle (no longer than 45cm or wider than 6cm).

Weaving with willow can be tough on the hands and requires some strength to work with so is unsuitable for those who suffer from arthritis or other conditions that effect the hands.

All materials and tools provided

Tea, Coffee and Biscuits will be provided throughout the day but you will need to bring you own packed lunch.

Course Details


On this two day course you will learn how to make a traditional round shopping basket using the stake and strand technique. On day one you will weave the base before inserting the uprights to weave the side of the basket using a choice of weaves, discussed on the day, to create your own unique design. On day two you be finishing the basket with a rod border and over arm wrapped handle.

This course is suitable for those with some experience working with willow but is not essential. Weaving with willow can be tough on the hands and requires some strength so is unsuitable for those with arthritis or other hand conditions.

All materials and tools are provided

Course Details


This rectangular basket teaches a variety of rush basketry techniques. You will learn different weave patterns to weave the rectangle base, before attaching to the forma to weave the sides which will be woven using a combination of weave patterns, pairing and reverse pairing before turning down the border.

You can choose to either make rush handles or add soft leather handles at an additional cost.

All materials and tools are provided

On this one day course you will learn to weave a round base, before adding uprights to weave the side and border to make a shallow tray or taller basket for fruit etc.

You will be able to choose from a selection of willow on the day to weave the base of the basket making the design unique to you.
